Clyde dam contract

PA' Wellington A contract has been let fr the first stage of the left bank excavation for the Glyde dam, the Minister of Regional Development and member of Parliament for Central Otago (Mr Cooper) announced yesterday. The work will be done by F. A. Willetts, Ltd, of Richmond. The $1.25 million contract includes the removal of the gravels overlying the dam foundations on the left side of the Clutha. River, and rock excavation for the main concrete-mixing and handling facilities on the left bank. A total of 512,000 cubic metres of rock and gravel had to be removed under the contract, Mr Cooper said. The announcement comes after Government approval of a further $lB million for work associated with the Clyde power project.
