A Sunday of surprises
The topsy-turvy nature of the 1980 Rothmans Soccer League has perhaps never been better illustrated this season than it was yesterday. Three of the top five teams before yesterday’s nineteenth round of matches were beaten by three teams all in danger of relegation. Manurewa lost to a Gor- : don Faichnie goal seven minutes from the end in Auckland, giving Rangers a great boost; Hanimex-North Shore lost to Stop Out in Lower Hutt; and Trans Tours United received its heaviest defeat in 11 seasons of competing in the league when Dunedin City hammered it, 4-0. Gisborne City moved level with Mount Wellington on 26 points by beating Hamilton. Two goals in two minutes by Colin Walker gave Gisborne its ninth win of the competition. However, the Mount has two games. in hand, its match with Block-
house Bay scheduled for yesterday having been postponed. Derek Gibson -Smith scored a hat-trick to give Wellington Diamond United a comfortable win over Newmans Nelson United.
