Unlighted cycles

Sir, — The correspondence between cyclists and motorists on the question of lights reached abysmal levels in R. H. Findlay’s letter (July 15). I travel every evening after 6 p.m. from Kirkwood Avenue to Avonhead and for weeks have been appalled at the large number of cyclists without lights and wearing dark Cothing. Their complete disregard for the possible mental and/or physical suffering which could result from an accident puts them on a par with those who take part in the Pamplona bull run or play Russian roulette. It is high time the Ministry of Transport took very firm action and maybe the cyclists would then see “the light.” — Yours, etc., ROSEMARY BREARS. July 15, 1980.
