Concession scheme draws little response

PA Invercargill The Government had been disappointed by the lack of response to the South Island electricity concession scheme, which it annouriced in April this ■ year, said the Minister of Trade -and Industry (Mr Adams-Schnei-Jder) yesterday. . “I. must confess that I am surprised at the comparatively small number of applications that have been received,” he said, in an address, to the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce. The scheme provides a 25 per cent concession on electricity costs incurred by manufacturing industries, certain classes of tourist accommodation, and elec-tricity-intensive farm inidustries.in the South Island. Mr Adams-Schneider, said it was estimated that almost 10,000 South Island, consumers would, be eligible for the. concession but; so far, less than half had applied. “This scheme; was” introduced as another way of helping to stimulate growth in the South Island but it will only be of- use if advantage is taken of it ” he said.
