Chess victory to Karpov
NZPA-Reuter Amsterdam The world chess champion, Anatoly' Karpov, of the Soviet Union, has won an international Grandmasters’ i tournament in Amsterdam by beating Bent Larsen, of Denmark, in the fourteenth and last round. Larsen, playing with the white pieces, retired after 23 moves to leave Karpov with an unassailable total of 10
points. The champion’s only loss in tile eight-man contest was to tlie Hungarian, Zoltan Ribli, in the sixth round. The Dutch No. 1 player, Jan Timman, the only competitor with a chance of overhauling Karpov, declared his final round match drawn as soon as he heard that the champidn had defeated Larsen.
