favourite, was fourth, and Empress Lu fifth. Northern visitors continued their success when Stipulwin came from last to win the Levin Winter Cup. Ridden by the former Woodville apprentice P. R. Aiderman, Stipulwin was last at the 600 m but gained a charmed run through on'the inside when the leaders fanned out across the track on the home turn. He quickly took command and was not pressed to win by two lengths and a half. - Stipulwin is raced and trained by C. D. Tatton, of Cambridge, and although the Easter Handicap winner had been sadly out of form for a long time he was relatively warmly fancied, being the eighth favourite in a field ol 15. The Vicar held out a strong bid from Volunteer

for second place and Mastei Token, which had taken the lead on the turn only to run wide at that point, finished almost in line fourth. The disappointments were the second favourite, Pastrol, which faded to beat only one home, and the public choice, Concert, which was back with Stipulwin for • much of the way and never improved. Brack, which, like Stipulwin, had been off the winners’ list since April. 1979, was able to stage off challengers in the straight after Diane Moseley had slipped him clear making the home turn. Trained at Hawera by L. J. Gestrd and W. McEwan, Brack lasted to beat Ambitious and the outsider, Coobers Knight, with the favourite, Eloop, a well-beat-en fourth.
