YELLOW STREAK
She is a quiet soil, fond of cats and chary of close contact With large dogs. But it is her fate to live cheek by jowl with a boisterous Alnation puppy. He thinks his feeling of warmth for her family is reciprocated by her and hers. To show' the depth of his emotion he leaps on a woodpile, scales his fence and bounds up to her as she ventures' cautiously out.. for the morning, paper. At night he can occasionally be found couchant upon her concrete parking pad. He takes the hint however when, engine revving he backs resolutely up. He overstepped the mark the other day though, by joyously leaping up at both the doors of her tiny Triumph as she and her daughter tried to alight. In the end .she managed to scramble out her side and, by dint of waving her tasty leather .bag in front of his'
smiling jawS, coax the dog into his own porch, all the while calling for her neighbour to come and hold the darn dog. After hammering on the door for an age, an aggrieved baby-sitter answered and told her she was waking the infant of the. household. By now she was hemmed in the doorway by the affectionate canine and her bag was firmly fixed in his jaws. He was dragged around the back, by the babysitter — without ; her bag, mercifully. Next morning saw him, nothing daqnted happily tail' awag, paws up on the fence, tongue lolling and a smile of perfect happiness on - his face as he greeted hen Then, he cowered down, tail between his legs and dashed for the shelter of a table on the lawn as her two tabby cats strolled casually through the hedge in his direction. ’ .' .
