Chamoun vow

The militia chief Dany Chamoun, whose forces were defeated in fighting between rival Lebanese Rightist groups, has vowed to mount a big political offensive against the victorious Falangists. Mr Chamoun’s National Liberal Party militia was crushed last week when attacked by Maronite Christians from the Falangist Party. He said the political offensive would be designed to “save the Christians from these bloodthirsty madmen” and that he would co-operate in military action against them. But he favoured a political solution to the deep rift in the Christian camp which jointly fought against Palestinian and Lebanese Leftist forces in the 1975-76 civil war. — Beirut.
