“Help Avert Rugby Trouncing”
Sir, — 1 write this as I watch the All Blacks being slaughtered by the Australians in the third test. This, at last, is the culmination of all that is soft and sloppy in what used to be an uncomplicated and forthright people. I came to New Zealand from England 23 years ago, when men were jokers and women were sheilas and one didn’t have to apologise for the stance one took vis-a-vis race, human rights (socalled) sex or any other twaddle — when the finest spectacle one could see was an All Black-Springbok test match. And my goodness, how we could learn from the South Africans when it comes to attitude of mind. However, thank God for the formation of H.A.R.T. w h i c h surely must have been formed by the N.Z.R.F.U. because it stands for Help Avert Rugby Trouncing, which will surely happen if the Boks come here. — Yours, etc., ARTHUR ROBERTSON, Greymouth. July 12, 1980.
