General forecast: The cold front over the south of the South Island is moving rapidly north-east, bringing strong cold sotherlies and occasional showers .to eastern districts, but mainly fine weather to the West Coast. In the South Island the showers should be confined to the east coast by late in the day, but some showers are still expected in the west and north of the North Island.
Canterbury: Southerly change, but winds moderating; showers spreading north, but fine intervals increasing; cold. Marlborough: Strong southerlies moderating; mainly fine inland; cold.
