Recreation grants
The first grants and subsidies under the national projects scheme of the recreation and sport programme for 1980-81 have been approved, according to the Minister of Recreation and Sport, Mr Highet The Amateur Wrestling Union will receive $4865, which includes a subsidy of $2250 for coaching clinics, and $975 towards the cost of the national championships and veterans’ tournament in Christchurch. The Amateur Athletic Association will receive $5500 towards the costs of a young athletes’ school to be held in Hamilton from August 30 to September 6. The Federation of Operatic Societies will get $13,100, which includes $2150 towards the publication of “Spotlight,” and subsidies for programme development , the annual conference, and the freightsubsidy scheme. The Gliding Association
will receive $5OO towards the costs of an Australian pilot competing in the New Zealand championships. The Barefoot Water Ski Club will get $750 for coaching and judging.
The Billiards and Snooker Association will receive $259 towards a delegate’s fare to the international federation’s meeting in Tasmania later in the year.
The Women’s Football Association will get $2128 towards the costs of the New Zealand team during the Australian team’s visit to New Zealanl earlier this year and those of a New Zealand official who accompanied the visiting American team recently. The Federation of Cagebird clubs gets a guarantee against the loss of up to $5OO for its 1981 Grand National Bird Show and exhibition at Timaru.
The New Zealand region nf the International Toastmistress Clubs will get
$550 for two council-officer training sessions.
Ducks Unlimited will get $5OO towards "Operation Gretel” (Grey Teal nest boxes). The Floral Art Society will receive an administration grant of $940. The Hang Gliding Association will receive $2OOO towards a seminar of club safety officers, publication costs, and to send a New Zealand team to the world championships in Japan in 1981.
The New Zealand Association for Disabled Skiers gets $5260 towards instructors’ salaries, seminars and instruction clinics. The Federation of Ballet and Dance will get $2OOO for a choreographic seminar in Wellington in August. The Amateur Weightlifting Association will receive $3085 for equipment and to send a delegate to the 1980 World Powerlifting Congress in the United States.
