French to tour S.A.

NZPA Pretoria The French national riigby union team will make a fourmatch tour of South’Africa from October 29 to November 8 this year, including one test match against the Springboks. The president of the South African Rugby Board (Dr Danie Craven) announced this after talks with the president of the French Rugby Federation (Albert Ferrasse).

The announcement came after speculation that agreement on the tour was imminent. The French Government has opposed such a tour, but Mr Ferrasse said Paris would not stop the French team from coming. The French will play (in order) provincial selections from Natal, Western Province, and a mixed' South African invitation 15, with the test match coming on November 8 in Pretoria.

Because of the heat in South Africa at this time of year, the only time possible for the French team to make the tour, the matches will be played in the evenings.
