General forecast: The depression near the Chathams is slow moving, and the strong cold southweserly airstream over New Zealand is expected to persist, producing showers about the Auckland peninsula and the south and east of the South Island, but mainly fine weather elsewhere. The cold front south of New Zealand is moving quickly north-east, and strong southerlies and more frequent showers are expected in eastern districts during the day.

south-west winds about the coast, with occasional showers; lighter winds inland mainly cloudy skies; cold.
Marlborough: Fresh south or south-west winds about the coast, cloudy, occasional coastal showers; lighter winds inland; cold. Nelson: Moderate southwesterlies; fine; cold, some frosts.
