Hydro grant increased
PA Wellington The Acting Minister of Works and Development (Mr W. L. Young) has approved a $95,000 increase in the Otago Electric Potver Board grant for design work on the Upper Taieri River hydro-electric scheme. On the recommendation of the local authority hydro development committee, the repayable grant has been increased from $129,500 to a maximum of $224,500. The scheme is part of a development which comfa ine s- hydro-electricity production with irrigation. It will take water from the Taieri River at the upper end of the Paerau Gorge and discharge it into the canals of the Maniototo irrigation scheme. Outside the irrigation season a second power station will take water from the canals and release it back into the Taieri River below the gorge. It is proposed to generate 12.25mW of electricity in this way.
