The Unit represents a new development and the successful applicant will be working in conjunction with the present Academic Staff of the University Department of Surgery in the Christchurch Clinical School of Medicine. Other staff, already appointed, include a computer scientist, a secretary cum research assistant, a research nurse and a scientific officer (Biochemistry). The unit will be principally working in the epidemiology of surgical practice related to the clinical practice of the department and other aspects of health care analysis. It would be preferable if applicants were familiar with epidemiological methodology with a background that includes economics and statistical analysis. The successful applicant will be expected to collect, handle, process and analyse data, including entering into and processing through a computer.
