Wearing of the green
The Marist rugby seniors have been putting plenty of colour into their play this season, and now there is' a move afoot to introduce more colour to the club’s playing uniform. A proposal to be put to the Marist annual .meeting in October is that the colour of the shorts be changed from white to green. Protagonists of the move say the white shorts discolour badly but the green variety washes better and looks “dressy.” Marist Brothers’ Old. Boys, as the club was once named, sported dark green jerseys and black shorts at the time of the great run of five consecutive championship successes in the early--19205. After the dispute with the union, which led to the seniors switching to league, the members of the club who stuck with rugby formed the Athletic club, wearing blue, white and black jerseys and black shorts. Marist was re-formed in 1945 from remnants of the Athletic and Addington
Celtic clubs, and adopted the present colours of green and white hooped jerseys, and white shorts. It is likely that the proposed new colour scheme will be sported by one of the club’s teams before the end of this season.
