The unbeaten Christchurch Boys’ High School A team showed its strength with a 4|-1| victory against Christ’s College A in the third round of the “The Press” school chess competition. After three rounds, Christchurch A is virtually assured of a place in the round-robin final. None of the team has been beaten, although none has had three straight wins. Adrian Lloyd, the No. 1 was held to a draw by Steve Withington, and the Christchurch No. 4 and No. 5, Bruce Bennett and Stephen Wright, had similar results against Michael Langford and Tim Williams, respectively.
St Andrew’s moved in to second place with a clean sweep against Burnside, but the battle for the other three positions in the grand final remains intense.
