Road sign confusion

Sir, —I am complaining about the confusion caused by the differing road signs on the Roydvale, Wooldridge and Wairakei Roads intersection. On the Wooldridge Road side of Wairakei Road there is a compulsory stop, and on the Roydvale side there i? a give-way. Surely one of these should be changed, as many drivers do not realise that these two signs are different. Many times there - has been a muddle of traffic because of this discrepancy. Can you tell me whether traffic turn-

iiig right from Roydvale Avenue into Wairakei Road must, give way to traffic travelling from Wooldridge Road into Roydvale Avenue, or do cars at the stop sign in Wooldridge Road have to give-way to all traffic? Perhaps the Ministry of Transport Department could clarify this situation.—Yours, etc J. HARRIS May 28, 1980. '• [Mr D. B. Rich, chairman of the Waimairi County Council, replies: “A stop sign on. the corner of Roydvale Avenue and Wairakei Road was replaced with a give way sign when it was discovered that one motorist in four failed to stop. Motorists had a clear view of the intersection as they approached it, and a stop sign was clearly inappropriate. A give way sign was considered a more reasonable method of control at this corner, and I am unaware of any confusion as a result of the change. However, traffic approaching Wairakei Road from Wooldridge Road, where visibility is limited, must stop and give way to all other traffic.”]
