Homosexuality issue

A petition opposing the Anglican Synod’s report on homosexuality has attracted about 300 signatures. The Rev D. T. Manning, the chairman of an action committee opposing the report, which was released last October, said the petition was started because the synod’s report gave only one side of the argument on homosexuality. The petition had been circulated among parishes in Christchurch.

Mr Manning said half to a third of the petitions had been returned. Some parishes refused to let their parishioners see the petitions. In others as many as SO signatures had been collected. The petition will now be kept open until the end of July. Mr Manning, said the results of the petition, together with other reports on homosexuality, would be considered before the issue was taken back to the Anglican Synod.
