‘Record’ apology
PA Wellington The computer victim, Michael Harvey, has had a letter of apology from the Ministry of Transport. As a result of a letter received from the Ministry last week. Mr Harvey found he had a criminal record on the computer
file after a court appear-
ance in Auckland by a
man using the same name. After a worrying and confusing two days trying to clear the matter, Mr Harvey finally asked the Wanganui Computer Centre’s Privacy Commissioner (Sir James Wicks) for the available information on his Transport, Police, and Justice files. The files arrived via the local postmaster yesterday, but Mr Harvey found the Ministry had. in the meantime, cleaned up his file. His Justice and Police files were clean — “nothing held.” A Ministry of Transport computer executive said the original mistake had been made through “an input error” in the Auckland office.
