Staff cuts at Laminex plant
The Christchurch brand of Laminex Industries is reducing work at its Hornbj plant making 29 workers re 'dundant. | A statement yesterdax [from the company, a sub- : sidiary of Alex Harvey Industries. Ltd. .said all 29 had been offered alternative jobs at the Crown Crystal Glass factory nearby. The Laminex plant supplemented the company’s main Auckland factor}- in the making of decorative building laminates. The decision had been taken reluctantly, but “two factories cannot be run economically at the present level of building activity where new house completions have dropped from more than 30,000 in. 1975 to about 14,000 forecast for 1980.” said A.H.L’s managing director, Mr C. M. Cairns.
