The world’s biggest wind turbine is now working successfully at a location near Boone in North Carolina. The giant, 42-metres unit, built by General Electric for the United States Department of Energy, has begun feeding electricity into the local power supply system. Its output is said to be sufficient to supply the electricity needs of up to 500 homes. Its twin blades measure 30 metres and spin at a constant 35 revolutions per minute. Experts predict such windmills will become popular fuel savers. Press, 19 June 1980, Page 10
