The T a u r a n g a-bound stablemates,- Brutus and Et Tu, sprinted attractively in training at Riccarton yesterday before starting on the first stage of their trip north. Being early workers they had the best of the footing on the No. 1 grass, but their 49.2 s for 800 m was still highly creditable on a yielding track. Brutus, going keenly, led his younger brother by a neck at the end. Brutus and Et Tu are engaged in the Tauranga Classic, 1400 m, at the Bay of Plenty Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday. Stephen Woodsford will ride Brutus in an attempt to extend a winning combi-

nation that made light of the first leg of the Oamaru T.A.B. double on Saturday. Warwick Robinson has been engaged for Et Tu, which was luckless in the running in his race at Oamaru.

Fair Rosamond and Mirtoan Sea, stablemates and rival candidates for the Lyndhurst Stakes at Ashburton, sprinted 800 m attractively in 50s. Both apneared to act well in the conditions, with Fair Rosamond on the outside, appearing to have a slight edge at the end. Middav Nip did well to return 49.9 s for his 800 m. Rockford led Longsin by three lengths finishing 1200 m in Imin 225, the last 800 m in 52.65.

Orderho outfinished his stablemate Lam.hmi over 1400 m. winning their trial hv a length and a half in Imin

34.45, the last 800 m in 53.45. La Tigue beat Tommy Bar by two lengths from the 1400 m, run in Imin 35.25. Keeko cleared out from his stablemate Dee Cee over 800 m, finishing four lengths clear in 51.25, and recording 37.4 s for the last 600 m. Lucky Chance and Anonoma Mae also returned 37.4, from the 600 m and 51.6 s for their 800 m.

Evening I Rose led Kildorian by a' length and a half finishing 800 m in 52.25. . i . Borodino and Flash it started a run over hurdles at high speed. F’ash it ran off at the second flight, hut < was taken back. Borodino was clear over the last two and gave a satisfactory display. Castle Hill jumued six hurdles. He mulled the third, but was in no trouble i at the others.
