Artefacts for auction
NZPA London An impressive array of valuable Maori artefacts will go on sale in London next week. In separate sales by the leading auction houses, Christie’s an Sotheby’s more than $121,000 worth of artefacts will go under the hammer. Virtually all the main Maori Hems from the James Hooper collection were sold three years ago, and next week’s sale concentrates on items from Melanesia and Micronesia. The Sotheby’s sale, drawing on offerings from serveral private collectors, includes a carved wooden tiki mask.
