Mt St Helens ’mad’

NZPA-Reuter Kelso Mount St Helens volcano had a touch of “moon madness” yesterday, shooting clouds of ash 19,000 metres into the sky, American geologists reported. The eruption came after a series of earth tremors had shaken the base of the

mountain, 80km east of Kelso, members of the United States Geological Survey Group reported. Scientists had warned that there could be trouble close to yesterday because the Moon would be closest to Earth since May 18, when the volcano erupted and killed at least 32 people and left 70 missing.
