Busy in basketball
Canterbury’s 11 national senior and ' junior men’s and . women’s basketball representatives have an exacting programme over the next few weeks. At the end of the national men’s and women’s club championship later this month, the four national teams are matched against six touring sides from the United States and Australia with 19 international fixtures arranged. These will be played between June 2S and July 20.
t he New Zealand junior men face the most hectic time, playing seven matches including four against the Australian juniors. Those tests are from July 3 to July 12, the fourth
and final being in Christchurch on July 12. The next week it meets the American sides, Monta Vista (in Timaru on July 16) and Freemont (at Westport and Nelson on July 18 and 20). Canterbury members of the junior team are David Edmonds (Continental Caterers Rangiora) and Chris Green (Y.M.C.A.). Nebraska University will be the New Zealand senior men’s opposition on successive days in Christchurch, Timaru and Dunedin from July 12 to 14. After the excellent placing by the team in an international tournament in Taiwan, the crowds will be interested in the form of the five Canterbury
players, John Hill. Stan Hill. Wayne Marsh. Bert Knops and John Rademakers.
On their- return from Taipei, Sharon Rennell and Chris Heremia, the Checkers representatives in the New Zealand women’s team, have four games against Kentucky State University on June 28 and 29 and July 5 and 6. Tina Beukenholdt (Araaui) .and Megan Stokes (Mairehau High School) are in the national junior women's team that meets a Washington team and a Kentucky’ State Uni-' versity side between June 29 and July 5. All except, one of these matches will be held in the North Island.
