N.Z. observers sought for rebel island
Parliamentary reporter New Zealand had been [asked by the New Hebrides Government -to send observers to the rebel-held island of Espiritu Santo, said the Acting Prime Minister (Mr Taiboys) yesterday. The request had been made to all member countries of the South Pacific Forum, he said. The revolt was not discussed at yesterday’s Cabinet meeting, but consultations among forum countries are continuing. No decision had 'yet been made on the request. “However, I think the most important point at present is that the responsibility for restoring law; and order obviously rests with the two administering Powers, France and Britain,” Mi Taiboys said.
