The Courts Assault of constable alleged

A 33-year-old painter facing seven charges — including assault and threatening to kill a policeman — was remanded in custody until Friday when he appeared before Judge Palmer in the District Court yesterday. He is James Brown Valepo who is alleged to have assaulted Leonard Orr John Miller with intent to avoid arr t, assaulted Rene Anthony Pabst, a police constable, with intent to avoid arrest, threatened to kill Mr Miller and Constable Pabst, and with resisting Constable Pabst. In addition Valepo is charged with wilfully trespassing at premises in Charnwood Crescent after being warned to leave, and with assaulting Suzanne Lois Broomhall. No pleas were entered by the defendant. Bail was opposed by Sergeant J. J. Chadderton. The Judge said he would reconsider bail on Friday once Valepo had instructed his lawver. BAIL OPPOSED Bail was opposed when Isaac Colin Reihana, aged 33, a sickness beneficiary, appeared on a charge of wilfully damaging a glass door pane, valued-at $lOO, the property of Warners Victualling Company, Ltd. Because of previous alco-hol-related nuisance offences the Judge remanded Reihana in custody without plea to June 13. In addition to the charge of wilful damage Reihana faces a charge of being found drunk in. Hereford Street having previously been convicted of this offence on three occasions in the last six months. Fraser in the District Court yesterday. Sergeant B. Roswell said the defendant was in custody and had not been sent down by authorities from Auckland. He was involved in the Arthur Allan Thomas, inquiry and might have been{ required there.
