Poll backs boycott

Respondents to a League of Rights opinion poll favoured New Zealand’s involvement in the Moscow Olympic boycott by almost five to one, according to the league. The poll was based' on replies to questions asked by the league in a newspaper advertisement entitled “Afghanistan; are we next?” published in various New Zealand centres earlier this year. A league spokesman in Christchurch, Mr Stewart Poole, said 3870 people .re-

plied in support of the boycott, and 781. against. Those supporting a complete break in diplomatic relations with the Soviet Union numbered 3788 and those against, 755. , The league also asked whether readers supported a New Zealand initiative at the United Nations to promote a complete economic boycott against the Soviets “until they cease aggressive policies.” Of replies to that question, 4463 answered “yes” and 371 “no,” said Mr Poole.
