Kirkness loses in billiards

The surprise defeat of its top player. Brian Kirkness, prevented Riccarton from taking an outright lead in the A grade billiards competition when the ninth round was played. Kirkness was beaten. 202-206, by Bob Eranks (Woolstom. who is making a habit of upsetting top players this year. Riccarton won its other two games, but its 2-1 -win was matched by Richmond, which had a much stronger opponent in Kaiapoi. This leaves Riccarton and Richmond still as joint leaders, with Kaiapoi slipping .back a little in third place. Dave Meredith (Shirley) showed! a return to his best form with the top break of 128.
