Bus concession check

Sir, — I refer to the letter from G. Dunn (May 17) concerning proof of age to qualify for the concession bus card and Mr Taylor’s reply, which is . valid comment. Recently in Dunedin I had occasion to obtain an air booking for a person over 65 who was eligible for a concession fare. The girl who attended to his booking advised me to take the superannuation certificate of entitlement, which they all have, to the Social Welfare Department, and they would stamp it. This they duly did with a stamp which says: “According to the Department of Social Welfare the bearer of this Identity Certificate has attained the age of 65 years.” — Yours, etc., J. BUCKLEY. May 17, 1980.

[Mr C. R. F. Money, Assistant Director (benefits and pensions), Department of Social Welfare, Christchurch, replies: “The service supplied to J. Buckley while in Dunedin is also available to beneficiaries and • pensioners through the Christchurch office of the department.”]
