NZPA-Reuter Baltimore Maryland Codex, which miss.ed the Kentucky Derby because his trainers did not think. he was good enough, survived an objection on Saturday to score a two?length . victoryover the Derby winner on the 105th Preakness Stakes. Genuine Risk, which earlier this month became only the second filly to win the Kentucky Derby, was placed second after being bumped by Codex, which bored across her line and threw her off her stride a furlong and a half from the finish. cinto Vasquez, lodged an objection, but the stewards upheld the result after studying film of the incident.
In third place, a length behind Genuine Risk, was Colonel Moran, another colt that did not run in the Derby. It was Codex’s third vic« tory in a major race this year. Earlier triumphs by the California colt came in the Hollywood Derby and the Santa Anita Derby, both in. his home state. His Preakness winnings of SUSIBS,OOO raised his totaj earnings to 5U5538.000.
