NZPA-Reuter Teheran Prospects for the appointment of a provisional prime minister of Iran receded yesterday after the ruling Revolutionary Council failed to decide on a nominee. A council member. Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani, said after a joint meting of the council and the Cabinet: “There were no negotiations about choosing a prime minister and I see it as improb-
able that a premier will be chosen.” , This was because the country’s new Parliament — which would have to approve any Government appointments — would assemble soon, and a prune minister would only be appointed before this if it was felt to be a matter of urgency. Ayatollah Rafsanjani is a leader of the hard-line Islamic Republican Party, which is expected to domi-
nate the Parliament after the last round of elections last Friday. President Abolhassan Bani-Sadr, who earlier yesterday held talks with the son of the Ayatollah Khomeiny, has been trying to set up a broad-based Government under a moderate prime minister before Parliament convenes.
But the effort appeared to have run into problems, apparently because of I.R.P. opposition.
