Regional players selected
Two Hertz regional league players have gained inclusion in the southern region soccer team to meet New Zealand at English Park next Friday evening. The two, Richard Mulligan of Woolston W.M.C., and Jack Schoulten of Caversham, join five players from Trans Tours United, four- from Dunedin City, and
two from Rangers in the 13man squad. One of the two selectors (Mr Terry Mann) believes that although the squad is not the strongest possible, it should still give a good account of itself. He said that the aim of the match was two-fold: to give the national team coach (Mr John Adshead) a chance to assess the form of. the
New Zealand players, and to give the regional players an opportunity to prove . their worthiness for a place in the national squad. Two players, Jim Taylor and Jim Wilson, both of Dunedin City, were unavailable for selection. It is likely another goal-keeper and midfield player will be added to the squad, which will train tomorrow
evening at English Park and also on Friday morning. The squad is: Peter Moot, Colin Chisholm, Peter Bennie, lan Marshall, Frank McKav (Trans Tours United), Bill Chisholm, Dave Gibson, Dave Munro, Pat Berry (Dunedin City), Alan South, lan Cowan (Rangers), Richard Mulligan (Woolston W.M.C.), Jack Schoulten (Caversham).
