' Supermum’ rewarded
The traditional Mother’s Day privilege of breakfast in bed seemed a long time coming for one- ,Christchurch mother yesterday. Mrs ; Tricia Hawkins, of Blshopdale, awoke early arid listened to her family singing and “banging around” in the; kitchen. “I began to wonder when no breakfast appeared by 8.30 and it was lucky I had a good book to read. Then about 9 a.m. my room was suddenly full of men,” she said. The chief chef and maitre d’ hotel of Noah’s arrived to serve Mrs Hawkins a delicious three-
course breakfast in bed as the winner of Radio Avon’s “Supermum” contest* Among the 350 entries in the contest was a letter by Angela Hawkins, aged eight, that gave 12 reasons why her brother was “the best in the whole world.” Mrs Hawkins also received a large bouquet of flowers from a Radio Avon announcer, Wayne Douglas, and a jewellery voucher and cosmetic products from sponsors. “I was embarrassed at first to be caught in bed in my nightie without my hair done, but when I got over the surprise I was
thrilled,” said Mrs Hawkins. “It was the best Mother’s Day surprise I have ever had,” she said. The family did not usually celebrate Mother’s Day as Mrs Hawkins’s birthday falls a week earlier. ' Radio Avon also arranged a dinner for two at Noahs as part of the prize which Mrs Hawkins and Mr Hawkins put off until Thursday. After a breakfast that included crepes, fillet of sole, and champagne, Mrs Hawkins said she was “too full” to cat out last evening.
