New role for M.D.C.
PA Wellington The Manufacturing Development Council has been asked to take over the functions of the Productivity Advisory Council, which held its final meeting in April, The..winding-up of the council,’ and also the Pro-
ducfivity Centre vrithin the Department of ' Trade and Industry, had given the M.D.C. added responsibility in helping the manufacturing sector’s contribution to the economy, said the council chairman, Mr J. Hammond.
‘‘The -Manuracturing Development Council intends to use this new role to encourage better use of resources and greater effiency in business.” Mr Hammond said. “Working through the five industry liaison officers the council will be able to co-ordinate both its present and future policies.” The Department of Trade and Industry will continue some of the services of the Productivity Centre. A steady demand exists for films connected with specialist management topics, and these will- be retained for industry hire which will meet running costs.
The department will also be ■ responsible for originating and co-ordinat-ing the interfirm comparison programme. Industry liaison officers will continue their work with productivity groups and small business groups. Technical booklets previously published by the Productivity. Centre will be available from the Small Business Agency. The monthly “Productivity News,” and. the bimonthly “Productivity and Technology,” will cease publication this month.
