Soviet moves in Afghanistan
Sir, — T found M. Creel’s letter most reasonable; :hs did not “grossly misrepresent the facts” of the . European situation. The occupation forces in West Germany could be just a counter to Warsaw Pact tanks, or vice versa, but their role can be foreseen if Germany chooses socialism, Tito’s death gives us a gross rehash, of false European history. Tito, the lauded enemy of Russia; had his first- threat from the Allies, who sought to destroy the partisans in the Balkans (and succeeded in Greece) in the causes of capitalism and the remnants of the Holy Roman Empire. What hypocrisy, to praise Titoism, which is unrelenting communism. But, after the Olympic Games and trade embargo hooha, we now see our noble allies, the Afghan rebels, introducing politics into sport by massacring hockey players. Just as well the Afghans do not play cricket. —Yours, etc.; VARIAN J. WILSON. ‘ May 7, 1980.
