Drivers vote on discipline

Fines of up to $lOO a day, three month’s suspension, or expulsion are provided for in a new rule proposed by the executive of the Canterbury Drivers’ , Union and considered by Christchurch members of the union at stop-work meetings yesterday. Members from outlying Canterbury districts will hold stop-work meetings in a fortnight to consider the rule and other union business. It is believed that

about 80 per cent of the 1150 Christchurch truck drivers and oil-tanker drivers voted on the ■ voices and on a show of hands in favour of the rule. The rule would be invoked to discipline members for strike-breaking or other offences not in the interests of the union. If it is approved by a majority of the union’s 4000 drivers, it will be submitted to the Registrar of Industrial Unions for approval.
