The Levin Horticultural Research Centre is a major centre for horticultural research in N.Z. Its primary objectives are to promote the regional and national development of horticulture bv investigating crops and products, particularly’ those with export potential. The research programme of the Centre Is concerned with the production, mechanisation, harvesting and quality of a wide range of horticultural crops, including berry fruits, glasshouse crops, ornamentals and vegetables.

QUANTITATIVE SCIENTISTS FISHERIES RESEARCH DIVISION WELLINGTON VACANCY NO. 2945 The Fisheries Research Division, Wellington, is seeking scientists with mathematical, statistical, and computing expertise to work on problems of fish stock assessment in New Zealand’s inshore and deep water fisheries. The work is largely statistical with some scope for mathematical modelling. The successful applicants will need to work closely with biological staff. TECHNICIAN RUAKURA ANIMAL RESEARCH STATION VACANCY NO. 2947 Duties consist of laboratory and field work involved in two major areas of research, field aspects of ryegrass staggers and the pasture factors in the aetiology of bloat. Both projects will involve pasture work, laboratory and field, and some record keeping and preliminary data analysis. The ryegrass staggers project will involve pen feeding and assessment of sheep. The bloat work will involve surgery for fistulation of sheep and cattle. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: N.Z.C.S. in biology and chemistry (some microbiology would be an advantage) or an equivalent B.Sc. or B.Agr.Sc.
