Obituary Miss K.A. Jacobs

Miss Katherine Alida Jacobs, the last surviving daughter of the First Dean of Christchurch, died in Auckland recently at the age of 95. Her father, Henry Jacobs, became dean in 1866. He had two sons and six daughters from two marriages. Born in 1823, Dean Jacobs was aged 61 when Katherine was born, and their two lives spanned more than

160 years, from the reign of King George IV to the present day. His wife, Emily Rose Jacobs, is among four pion e e r women commemorated by memorial seats on the Port Hills Bridle Path. Miss Jacobs grew up in the old Deanery, on Armagh Street and led an uneventful life, said a niece, Mrs Helen Garrett. She worked for the Post Office in Wellington until her retirement, and has been an identity at the Caughey Preston Home, in Auckland, where she had lived for 30 years.
