Jet-overhauling contract signed

PA Auckland Air New Zealand has signed a $2.5 million contraci to continue overhauling the General Electric engines oi the Malaysian Airline System’s DClOs for the next three years. The contract was signed after the Government’s decision last week to have Rolls-Royce rather than the American General Electric engines fitted to the new 747 jumbo jets ordered for Air New Zealand.

The airline said yesterday they were close to reaching agreement “on all aspects” of the deal. This involves the delivery dates for the engines The first airframe will be ready next May. It also involves assistance the British company will give the airline in tooling up its workshops to overhaul the new engines.
