Discipline clause

NZPA London The West Indies cricketers have had a discpline clause written into their contracts for this season’s tour of England, said the team’s manager, Clyde Walcott, in London yesterday. Speaking after the team had arrived at London’s Heathrow Airport at the start of a five-test tour, Walcott said: “The players’ contracts have been slightly altered compared with recent tours to demand of them greater discipline.” The move by the West Indies Cricket Board of Con-

trol comes after a con* troversial tour of New Zealand earlier this year, during which the Caribbean players were criticised for poor sportsmanship and bad behaviour. “I have not been given extra powers.” Mr Walcott said, “but I don’t anticipate that discipline will be a problem. “From certain reports if appeared that West Indies players were no longer considered sportsmen. I think English cricket lovers know that we are sportsmen and we aim to play in the spirit that the game intended.”
