Herald may beat mediocre field at Woodville
Special correspondent Wellington In a field that is far from strong, Herald could come out on top in the Oxford Handicap, the first leg of the double at Woodville today.
Herald showed his readi ness for the Oxford with a good run at Trentham on Saturday. Second favourite in the Otari handicap, he chased the favourite Honey Bee home after getting well back in the running. Before that, Herald had run sixth at Awapuni on Anzac day and. won at Hastings the time before. I'm Sam could prove to be
i the hardest for Herald to beat. He was second on the course last Friday in; the 1 Kumeroa Handicap behind J Re Trac and his efforts bee fore that had been useful if / not outstanding. 1 The three-year-old Ambi--3 tions could also be a leading 1 hope. He has not raced since 7 Easter when second and s third in two races. He failed in the St Leger, but won at e the Napier Park meeting.
He looks a stayer of some promise. The three-year-old Kurdistan Agent looks to be in solid form at the moment and he could be the pick of the field in the Sowry Handicap, the second leg of the double.
Kurdistan Agent ran sixth at Woodville last Friday, but his form before that had been sound. He won by four lengths at Waipukurau after
a third at Hastings a race in which he was swamped just close to the line. Kurdistan Agent has drawn out a little at 16, but he looks to have the pace to overcome that problem. Golden Hennes, from the Smith stable, could be the one to trouble. He was fifth last time at Tauranga and his form all along has been sound.
