New departments for D.I.C. Beaths
The link between Cashfields and D.I.C. Beaths will be a close one, not just in terms of access-way between the two buildings, but in the presence of two new departments within the Cashfields complex. On the first floor of Cashfields, at the head of the escalator, D.I.C. Beaths has opened an Active Sports and Leisure-wear Department specialising in both fashion and practical garments for the new sporty look. The shop will stock a full range of denim casual-wear, jeans and jackets from the country’s leading manufacturers as well as exclusive lines which are expected to be highly sought after. The active sports-wear will be aimed more at spectators and the sometime, casual sports than at keen participants, although top brand names such as Adidas are stocked. The second enclave of D.I.C. Beaths within the Cashfields complex is situated on the ground floor, close to the Lichfield Street entrance. Called D.I.C. Beaths Potteries, the shop is a departure from the department store’s usual image. While the shop stocks all types of pottery, both hand-made and factory manufactured, it specialises in selling seconds from Richmond Potteries, the well-known Nelson stoneware pottery. Richmond pottery is in great demand in New Zealand and although some shops do carry stocks, this is the only outlet—apart from the pottery itself—for seconds. The imperfections in the pottery are so slight as to be scarcely noticeable but they have the effect of reducing the prices by up to 30 per cent. Various patterns and colours are available in the Richmond range and the pottery produces both dinnerware and heat-resistant oven-to-table-ware.
