Surgery for crash survivor
PA Tauranga The family of the Tauranga man, Mr Bruce Gillespie, aged 31, who was seriously injured in an air crash in Bangkok on Sunday, remains hopeful that he will recover.
Mr Gillespie was one of 10 survivors out of the 52 passengers and crew on the flight.
The aircraft crashed as it was approaching the Bangkok Don Muang Airport. Mr Gillespie has two broken legs, a fractured pelvis, and a suspected fractured skull.
His father, Mr H. N. Gillespie, said in Tauranga yesterday that he was in constant contact with his son’s wife in Bangkok. “She telephoned us last night after he came out of surgery,” he said. “He is very badly injured and is covered with abrasions and cuts. He is a strong man and we are just hoping he will be all right.”
Mr Gillespie, his wife, and two young sons have been in Thailand for five months.
