Osborne takes 1980 O.S.C.A. title
PA Timaru John Osborne, of Christchurch, driving a Chev Camaro, emerged as the O.S.C.A. open saloon car champion for 1980 at the final meeting of the season at the Timaru motor raceway yesterday.
Osborne finished well down in the placings, but had accumulated enough points in the previous rounds to win.
Dunedin’s John Hazzard, who had gone into the final round with an equal number of points, could not handle the wet conditions and finished out of the running
The O.S.C.A. class A championships race was won by Wayne Huxford. of Wellington, driving a 5-litre Capri VB. Final positions in the O.S.C.A. championship:—
Over all: J. Osborne (Christchurch) 1, J. Hazzard iDunfedin) 2, D. Waldron (Christchurch) 3. Class A: Osborne 1, 1. Munt (Christchurch) 2, 1. Tulloch (Mataura) 3. Class B: Hazzard 1, Waldron 2 B. Hessev (Christchurch) 3. Class C: ’W. Burt (Timaru) 1, I. Wilkins (Ashburton) 2, W. Ross (Christchurch) 3. The South Island production saloon car championship was won by Jim Little, of St Andrews, driving a Charger. Barry Lloyd, of Ashburton, was iec-> ond, and Graham Jenkins third. South Canterbury drivers dominated the 0-2000 cu. cm. classes. Timaru’s Allan Farr (Fiat) wa« first, with Bob Morrison (Datsun), of St Andrews, second, and. Laurence Gare (Mazda), of Timaru, third.
