Firestone factory idle
Production has stopped at the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company factory in Christchurch because of a disoute over claims by the ‘Canterbury Rubber Workers’ Union for a shorter working week. Norma! production was to have resumed about 11 pm. yesterday but the works'manager Mr V. W. West, said that no work had been offered because the rubber workers had altered their working week last week to have some of them finishing work at j 5.30 p.m. instead of 11.30 ; p.m. on Thursday.
