PA Auckland Shona Martyn, >of the “New Zealand Herald,” has been judged “Journalist of the Year.” The award was part of the second annual . Qantas press awards. Miss Martyn won a trip to London and a trophy for her portfolio .of entries, which included articles on “disco kids,” Radio Pacific’s first day on-air, education issues, and'a head-on collision. Other journalism awards included: Runner up to the "Journalist of the Year,” David Lomas of the “Dominion; “Young Journalist of the Year,” Sally Faulkner of the “Dominion”; runner-up, Liz Bulleid of the “New Zealand Herald,” highly-commended, Marie McNicholas of the “Daily News,” New Plymouth, and Amanda Samuel, of “The Press.” The award for the single best piece of journalism went to Josh Easby, Sue McPherson, and Murray Williams, of the “Auckland Star,” for a series of articles on drugs. Fred Freeman, of the “Auckland Star” won the “Press Photographer of the Year” award and a trip to London. Both the over-all runner-up award and that for the “Young Press Photographer of the Year” went to Vicky Wardell, also of the “Auckland Star.” Peter Bromhead, of the “Auckland Star,” won the “Cartoonist of the Year” award and, a trip to Singapore.
