Earlier landfill sought
An earlier opening of the metropolitan landfill site will be sought by the Christchurch City Council. That was the only way to ensure that Bexley tip rubbish would not be dumped near houses again, Cr D. C. Close told the council last evening. Plans to bring rubbish near Pages Road have prompted a sharp protest by the neighbourhood. •. - Cr Close said that other metropolitan councils, whose own dumps were nearing an end, should support the City Council’s move to open the big landfill area — between the Bottle Lake Forest and the beach—before 1986. ' Councillors -said that Bexley residents had already put up with a nearby tip for 10 years, and that was too long.
