Policeman acquitted
PA Oamaru An assault charge against an Oamaru policeman has been dismissed after a hearing in the District Court at Oamaru before Judge Ross. The constable, whose name was suppressed, denied the charge. The complainant, whose name was also suppressed, alleged that he was as-
saulted after he had been arrested and put in the cells of the Oamaru Police Station on February 2. He alleged that the • constablehad punched him in the mouth through an aperture (viewing hole) in the cell door. The constable, and three other constables who were present at the time, said that there was no such punch.
